Voters in Kansas City, Missouri can thank their star quarterback for helping put together their city's largest polling site. During an appearance on Huddle & Flow, Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared that he made a $100,000 donation to help Arrowhead Stadium become a polling site on election day. “I thought it was very important,” Mahomes said. “Not only just to get as many people out to vote as possible, but also to use a place as Arrowhead, where we have a lot of fun, show a lot of love, a unity where people coming together and use that as a place where we can come together and vote and use our voice.” This election was also personally important for the former NFL MVP. As a 25-year-old, this was his first time voting in a presidential election. As a soon-to-be father, he feels that fulfilling his civic duty will help shape the future for his child. “I think you start to pay attention more and more of what’s going on around you,” he said.
“And as you get older and as you mature and as the discussion and the talk has really become such a big ordeal, you really understand more and more of how it affects you every single day. And so I’m just glad that I had the opportunity that I can vote and can use my voice and in whatever way possible.”
Mahomes is one of many players in the NFL that headed to the polls on election day. Prior to the election, the league reported that 90% of the league had registered to vote. The league also closed all team facilities in an effort to support players who needed to use the time to vote.
