Man Shot and Killed After Pulling Into Stranger's Driveway

On the morning of January 9, 2026, Rodriguez Poplar, the husband of social media influencer Sheila Booker, was shot and killed after the couple pulled into a stranger's driveway in Memphis, Tennessee. 

• Incident Trigger: The couple pulled into a driveway on North Trezevant Street to avoid police after noticing a broken headlight and expired tags on their vehicle.

• The Confrontation: The homeowner, identified as Tommy Applewhite, came out of his house armed and demanded they leave. According to Booker, Applewhite pointed a gun at her face.

• The Shooting: Rodriguez Poplar exited the vehicle to protect his wife and was subsequently shot in front of her.

• Legal Action: Memphis Police arrived on the scene within a minute and arrested Applewhite, who was still holding the weapon. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
