The Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 chart features no rap songs. The streak ended on the chart dated October 25, 2025.
The absence of a rap song in the top 40 follows the removal of the long-running hit "Luther" by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, a 13-week No. 1 single. The song fell victim to a recent change in Billboard's chart methodology, which removes descending songs that fall below certain thresholds after an extended period on the chart.
Once a song is past six months on the chart, it's considered a recurrent and is automatically removed from the charts, no matter how popular it still may be.

The previous time no rap song was in the Top 40 was the week of February 2, 1990, just before Biz Markie's "Just a Friend" climbed to No. 29 the following week, beginning the decades-long streak.
While the rule change was the immediate cause, the situation also reflects a broader decline in rap's commercial dominance, with the genre's market share dropping from a peak of nearly 30% in 2020 to 24% in 2025. In the same period, pop artists like Taylor Swift have occupied numerous Top 40 slots simultaneously, limiting space for other genres.
As of the chart dated November 1, 2025, the streak has continued for a second week, with the highest-ranking rap song being YoungBoy Never Broke Again's "Shot Callin" at No. 44.
