In a resurfaced video from a college campus debate in April 2024, the late conservative commentator Charlie Kirk stated that Nicki Minaj is not a "good role model for 18-year-old Black girls". The clip gained renewed attention in late 2025 after Minaj appeared at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest to praise Donald Trump and JD Vance.
Context of the Remarks
Criticism of Influence: Kirk argued that "Black culture is being held captive" by certain influences and role models, specifically naming Minaj and Cardi B.
Likely Confusion: During the debate, Kirk complained about songs "glorifying wet female genitalia," an apparent reference to the 2020 song "WAP". However, "WAP" is a song by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion; Minaj was not involved in the track.
Conflicting Stances
Despite these public comments, other evidence suggests Kirk’s views on Minaj were more complex or shifted over time:
Private Praise: Leaked text messages from 2018, shared by Candace Owens in 2025, showed Kirk enthusiastically praising Minaj's verse on the song "Monster," calling her "the best".
Public Defense: In 2021, Kirk tweeted in support of Minaj, claiming that the Democratic Party's treatment of her proved they "don't care about Black people" they "can't control".
2025 AmericaFest Appearance
Minaj was warmly received at AmericaFest on December 21, 2025, where she sat for a Q&A with Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk. During the event, Minaj referred to President Trump as "dashing" and JD Vance as an "assassin," the latter being an awkward slip-of-the-tongue given that Charlie Kirk was fatally shot in September 2025.
