Ghostface Killah's highly anticipated album, Supreme Clientele 2, just dropped through Mass Appeal Records.
This project serves as a sequel to his highly-acclaimed 2000 album, Supreme Clientele. The newly released album was originally slated for a June release but was delayed. Kanye West and Mike Dean are serving as executive producers for the album.
Tracklist: The 22-track project boasts an impressive array of guest features, including fellow Wu-Tang Clan members Raekwon, GZA, and Method Man, along with Nas, Styles P, Conway the Machine, M.O.P., Redman, and Dave Chappelle.
Singles: Ghostface Killah has released two singles from the album: "Rap Kingpin", which was released last month and "Metaphysics", released last week.
"Rap Kingpin" features a sample of Eric B. & Rakim's "My Melody" and elements of the original Supreme Clientele's "Mighty Healthy". "Metaphysics" is a track Ghostface recorded in 2003 and saved for a fitting moment.
Style and Sound: Ghostface has described the album as tapping back into the "frame of mind and era" of the original Supreme Clientele, while also bringing a fresh, new lens to his signature style.
It definitely has the feel of a mixtape, especially with DJ Ty Boogie's "New Ghostface!!!" scream spread throughout the album.
Then you throw in familiar samples and breakbeats on joints like "Windows", "Beat Box", "Rap King Pin" and the actual song entitled, "Breakbeats" with the DJ back spinning the records, a la, "live at the parties back in the day". The familiar melody sample of "Georgy Porgy" and the aforementioned "Metaphysics", with the drum sample from Biz Markie's "Goin' Off", all add to a genuine mixtape feel.
Just to round out that GENIUNE "Back in the day" feel. Ghost rhymed over the Commodore's "Zoom" in its entirety, meaning, the vocals included. Emcees used to rhyme over songs they liked, yet had no instrumentals to them. They didn't care, they would mentally block out the song's vocals and just rhyme. That helped them concentrate on their lyrics and zone in on the song's melody....
Starks emphasized that it's "Real Rap – No gimmicks – Just Ghost". Some tracks on the album are reported to be 16 or 17 years old, showcasing a blend of vintage and new material.
Supreme Clientele 2 is part of Mass Appeal's "Legend Has It..." campaign, which features seven albums releasing in 2025 from iconic artists including Nas & DJ Premier, Raekwon, Mobb Deep, De La Soul, Big L, and Slick Rick.
