The Conflict: The dispute began on January 9, 2026, when Payne demanded $10 from his roommate for the meal. The roommate offered $3 instead, claiming the food was not worth the full price.
The Assault: According to police records, Payne allegedly kicked the victim in the head, attacked them with a miniature baseball bat until it broke, and fired a gun into the victim's bedroom.
The Robbery: After the victim passed out, Payne reportedly stole two cell phones and keys, stating he would sell them to collect the $10 he was owed.
Arrest and Charges
Apprehension: Officers tracked Payne the following day using a GPS monitoring device he was already wearing for a separate case. He was spotted riding a bicycle with a handgun visible in his coat pocket.
